About the Program
Summer Recreation is open to all students in the Massapequa district entering grades K-5 in September 2023. The program runs for five consecutive weeks (Wednesday, July 5th - Friday, August 4th) from 9AM to 3PM. Lunch takes place from 12PM to 1PM. Campers must come with a bagged lunch if they are staying for the lunch hour. Campers are not permitted to leave school grounds unless signed out by a parent/guardian. Campers are grouped based on the grades they are entering in September.
* NEW for 2023: Registrations and payment for Summer Recreation MUST be completed online through FamilyID. No registrations will be accepted on site. Cash/check will not be accepted as a form of payment for registration. Additional information can be found here.
Daily Activities Include the Following:
*As a reminder, please send your child with a water bottle (labeled with your child's name) on a daily basis in order to keep hydrated. Water bottles and sports drinks will also be available for purchase for $1.00/$2.00 respectively.
Field Trips
Birch Lane Summer Recreation will have optional activities for your child to participate in (off-site and on-site) each week. Please check the calendar of events and activity permission slips for specific information. Permission slips and additional fees are required to participate.
Trip/activity fees and permission slips will be made available each Friday for the following week's activities. In order to ensure the safety of our campers and staff, off-site field trips will have limited capacity and be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. If a trip sells out, wait lists will become available in the event of a cancellation. Trips must be paid with cash only.

Sprinklers
Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon (weather permitting), the water sprinkler will be turned on. If your child would like to participate in this activity, please send them with a bathing suit, towel, water-shoes (or a shoe with a secure back - no flip flops), and a change of clothes. Campers will have access to the bathroom stalls to change. For families of younger campers (K-1), it is recommend that your child come dressed in their bathing suit, especially if they are not used to dressing themselves. Our staff is not permitted to apply sunscreen; please apply sunscreen prior to arrival.
Special Event Fridays!
Special events will take place every Friday. Campers will be notified in advance about special dress up days. We strongly encourage all campers to participate!

- Group parties (e.g. pizza, Italian ice, movie, pajama parties)
